Four-year-old B.C. drug, gun case continues despite 2021 guilty pleas

The Vancouver Provincial Court case of a man accused of 12 counts of drug tracking-related charges has gone on for 1,232 days as of April 24.

Twelve charges against Matthew Phillip Bond were detailed in a court information dated Nov. 18, 2020.

Court documents show the 36-year-old pleaded guilty to five charges in November 2021.

He has had the same lawyer since June 2021; meanwhile, there have been 18 Crown prosecutors at the 64 court appearances on the charges, involving almost two dozen judges or justices of the peace.

Court records show he has been in custody the entire time.

All charges relate to July 21, 2018.

Bond is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking multiple drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and other chemicals.

He is also charged with having a .45 automatic calibre Springfield Amory semiautomatic pistol without authorization or a licence. He's also charged with having a .22 long rifle calibre Beretta model 21A semiautomatic pistol without authorization or a licence.

Bond is further charged with having funds exceeding $5,000 knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence.

He was also prohibited from having the weapons.
