A second man in three days has been stabbed in the city of White Rock, B.C. — this time, however, the victim has died of his wounds, police said Wednesday.

RCMP received a report of a man suffering from stab wounds Tuesday, April 23 at 9:26 p.m. near the White Rock Pier.

“Despite life-saving measures provided by first responders on scene, the person did not survive,” police said in a statement.

The incident, which occurred in the 15400-block of Marine Drive, comes three days after another stabbing in the area. On Sunday, a 28-year-old man was sent to hospital after another nighttime stabbing near the pier. RCMP identified the suspect in both attacks as a Black male wearing a hat and a grey hoodie. Police think he stands five feet 11 inches tall.

In the latest incident this week, the suspect was last seen fleeing northbound from the promenade towards Marine Drive.

Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation and will work with White Rock RCMP. In a statement, RCMP spokesperson Const. Chantal Sears said area surrounding the scene of the latest attack will be cordoned off from the public as investigators gather evidence.

Police are still trying to determine whether the two stabbings are linked, said Sears.

White Rock RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sgt. Rob Dixon said police officers have increased patrols in the waterfront area while IHIT conducts the homicide investigation.

“Understandably, the incidents have raised concerns surrounding safety in our community. I share those concerns. These acts of violence are the top priority for me and the detachment.”

Those with information on the attack are asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at [email protected].
