A viewing platform at Furry Creek has been given a facelift.
The viewing area, which closed on June 21 to allow for demolition of the existing platform and construction of the new, accessible platform, is now re-opened.
The new and improved viewing area, located at the end of the dike on the north shore of Furry Creek, is now accessible for people who use wheelchairs and includes an expanded seating area that takes in the north and south-facing views.
“I am thrilled that this project has come together and that we are able to re-open the platform with several weeks of summer still ahead of us,” said SLRD electoral Area D director Tony Rainbow, in a news release.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has limited our access to so much and it’s been a reminder of the importance of being able to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors,” he said. “This structure might not seem like a big deal, but it is a vital amenity that helps connect us to the outdoors, to the community, and to each other,” added Rainbow. “This platform will be a welcome spot for locals and visitors to come and enjoy the great outdoors and take in the spectacular views of the area.”
The project was funded by SLRD Area D Amenity Funds and was completed by West Coast Sea to Sky Construction Ltd, following a request for proposal (RFP) process.
