A Smoky Skies Bulletin has been issued for the entire Sea to Sky Corridor as smoke from wildfires in Washington State and B.C.’s Interior fills the sky above Squamish, partially blocking the sun.

Vancouver Coastal Health recommends avoiding strenuous outdoor activity.

A heat warning also remains in effect for Squamish. Daytime temperatures could peak above 30 degrees, according to Environment Canada, but smoke blocking the sunlight can significantly lower highs.

The hot weather is expected to last until Wednesday evening.

Due to the smoke, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, the health authority recommends contacting your doctor: difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, and sudden onset of cough or irritation of airways. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

The risks of heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
