B.C. Supreme Court was updated on the murder case against Eric Gaon Kim in the stabbing death of Andrew Wadden.

One of two men charged with a fatal stabbing in Vancouver’s Crab Park has pleaded guilty.

Andrew Wadden, a 45-year-old Vancouver resident, was stabbed May 7, 2022 just before 10:20 a.m., police said.

Police and emergency medical crews were later called and Wadden was found alive with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the scene.

Police initially charged Eric Gaon Kim in connection with the incident. Later, David Christian Bentil was also charged with second-degree murder.

Kim appeared by video in B.C. Supreme Court Jan. 29. Justice Marguerite Church heard Kim had pleaded guilty in October of 2023.

Sentencing had been set for late November but a previous lawyer had withdrawn, lawyer Taylor Sullivan told Church. She said new lawyer Lawrence Myers is awaiting disclosure to proceed with the sentencing.

The pair had appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Ellen Gordon for a preliminary inquiry in April 2023. Such hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exists to proceed to trial.

Evidence and submissions heard are covered by a publication ban in order not to taint a possible future jury should the accused elected that trial type.
