A tourist attraction in Golden that bills itself as the home of Canada’s highest suspensions bridges has major additions planned for its second season of operation.
The Golden Skybridge — perched a daunting 130 metres above a canyon — is home to both Canada’s highest and second-highest suspension bridges.
But the two bridges aren’t the only attractions spanning the canyon walls.
Brianna Poole, senior guest experience manager at Golden Skybridge, said the facility has something for everyone.
“For the families we have a great play park, we also opened a new playground just for the toddlers — so for the little ones kind of four years and younger,” Poole told Castanet.
“Then for the more adventurous we have the challenge course, zip line, we have a climbing wall being installed here.”
The Sky Zipline will be open for its first full season this year and the Canyon Edge Challenge Course that opened last season has been expanded, according to Pursuit, the company operating the attraction.
“One of the most exciting things is opening up this summer at the Golden Skybridge is our giant Canyon Swing,” Poole said.
“Certainly it’s not for the faint of heart, it will take two people and they will pendulum swing through the canyon here.”
Poole said the Canyon Swing is being built with custom pieces coming from New Zealand and features no bungee cord system. It’s designed for more intense thrill seekers. Though it’s not open yet, the company said it will be up and swinging later this summer.
Despite being a seasonal attraction, Poole said cold and wet weather doesn’t impact any of the attractions at Golden Skybridge.
“Rain doesn't affect us here. We operate in rain or shine. Really the only things that stop us here are lightning and high winds,” she said.
For those looking for less of a thrill or who are maybe are afraid of heights, multiple events are planned to take place on the ground — in the plaza at the Golden Skybridge.
New for its second season, Pursuit said weekly concerts, night markets and morning yoga classes are on the agenda for the rest of the summer.
Golden Skybridge’s Summer Concert Series will feature live music every Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., running June 26 until September 4.
According to Pursuit, every other Friday starting July 1 to August 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Skybridge will be hosting the Golden Night Market featuring artisan vendors, various food trucks, craft beverages and live music.
Rise and Shine Yoga is slated to take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for multiple dates throughout the summer. The yoga class taking place surrounded by mountain views and will also feature a locally catered “wellness breakfast,” according to Pursuit.
The last day of operations for the season is planned for the Monday of Thanksgiving weekend.
New attractions to Canada’s highest suspension bridges are scheduled to be announced and open throughout the summer.
