BC Supreme Court
A Vancouver second-degree murder, aggravated assault case in B.C. Supreme Court has been adjourned to Jan. 26 as lawyers confer on details.

The murder and aggravated assault trial of a man charged in 2021’s first Vancouver homicide could be shortened through admissions of fact, lawyers told a B.C. Supreme Court judge on Jan. 19.

Kenneth Gates was arrested Jan. 31, 2021 after Vancouver Police Department officers were called to a single-room occupancy hotel on Gastown’s Water Street for a double stabbing.

Victim Jeremy Greene, 40, died on scene.

A second stabbing victim, 28, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gates was arrested nearby and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Crown prosecutor Monte Ruttan told Justice Warren Milman that lawyers have been working on admissions of fact in the case.

Gates remains in custody. The case was adjourned to Jan. 25 for lawyers to continue admissions discussions.
