Kamloops Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service crews worked overnight to try and extinguish the Kamloops East Interface fire and a flare up on Strawberry Hill.

According to the City of Kamloops, KFR will continue to monitor both fires throughout the day.

Steve Robinson, KFR chief, said he’s “extremely proud” of everybody working together to tackle the fires.

“The dedication and work of all staff has been exemplary,” Robinson said.

The city said KFR is also monitoring fires that are in proximity to Kamloops — ready to respond if needed — and maintaining close contact with BC Wildfire Service, the RCMP, and other agencies.

According to the city, the structure protection units requested from the provincial government have been released back, but may be recalled if needed.

The City of Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre will continue to support the fire suppression crews and Emergency Support Services operations.

The city said residents and businesses can resume irrigation within normal summer water restrictions.
