A Richmond woman who scooped $1 million on the lottery spent the whole day checking her winning ticket to make sure her big win was for real.

Eiko Yamase likes to watch Netflix and YouTube in her free time at home, but instead of watching her favourite show, the Richmond mom recently saw her screen light up with $1 million Maxmillions prize from the June 18 Lotto Max draw.

“I didn’t know what to do,” Yamase recalled. “I couldn’t believe it at first…for the whole day I had to make sure my ticket had matched the number.”

Yamase eventually called BCLC and confirmed that the winning numbers she saw were correct, and she wasn’t watching a movie.

Next, she called her husband to tell him about her life-changing news.

“He couldn’t believe it. He was excited and congratulated me.”

Yamase plans to use her prize to visit Canada’s Maritime provinces, and also contribute to her children’s education.

“It has been my dream since coming to Canada to visit out east,” she said. “I would love the opportunity to travel to Toronto, Halifax or even PEI.”
