A bear sculpture weighing about 100 pounds was swiped from a Port Coquitlam home last week.
Police say the metre-tall sculpture was on the porch of a house, near Hastings Street and Kitchener Avenue, when someone took it the concrete artwork.
The owner called Coquitlam RCMP at around 9:40 p.m. last Saturday, Jan. 11, to report the crime; however, officers were unable to locate the sculpture after a sweep of the neighbourhood.
"This brazen theft from the victim’s residence is very disappointing," spokeperson Const. John Graham said in a news release.
"The statue holds significant sentimental value for the owners and is symbolic of their respect and admiration of our beloved local bear population. We hope to return this unique statue — undamaged — to the rightful owners. It is incumbent on us all to respect other people’s property in an effort to maintain a sense of community."
Anyone with information about the theft, or has video, cell phone or dash cam footage of the area on Jan. 11, 2025, is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2025-869.
