Union of B.C. Municipalities' delegates have not flip-flopped and have stood firm on which food is best at fall fairs.

Delegates Sept. 18 voted the mini-donuts at the Pacific National Exhibition to be the “absolute best” summer fair treat in the province.

Hundreds of delegates in an electronic vote said by an overwhelming 71 per cent that the donuts beat out peanuts or cotton candy.

However, that status came under threat Sept. 20 as a second vote came up about corn dogs being the best food at fairs.

However, the corn dog wasn’t getting the love.

The vote failed, only getting 33.77 percent support.

“Corn dogs are not the most delicious,” said Vancouver Coun. Pete Fry, the UBCM plenary sessions chair.

Asked as delegates were voting why the corn dog was being advanced as a fave, Fry said, “that was a different vote.”

The vote was the first vote taken at the annual general meeting in Vancouver.

Such first votes are typically light and humourous, as they are a test of the voting system.

Fry said the first vote recognized the PNE faves are ”fantastic.”

The votes are done at the start of sessions to discuss and vote on resolutions for lobbying senior governments on policy changes.

Fry said a record 267 resolutions were on tap for the sessions running through Sept. 20.
