The pair have elected trial by provincial court judge.

A kidnapping and robbery conspiracy charge case against two men has begun in Vancouver with a judge hearing evidence to decide its admissibility in the trial.

Isaiah Castro, 24, and Paolo Silvera, 23, are jointly charged with conspiracy to both kidnap and rob a person in Surrey in December 2019.

The case was in a voire dire Nov. 20, a hearing akin to a trial within a trial where the judge hears evidence to decide if it can be heard as part of the trial proper.
Contents of voire dires are covered by a publication ban in case the evidence is not admitted for trial.

Both men have pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected trial by provincial court judge.

Silvera was in court while Castro appeared by video.
