A B.C. man has been given an 18-month conditional sentence and probation after pleading guilty to mischief, uttering threats and assault.
Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Gregory Rideout heard Michael Gadd committed mischief by wilfully damaging the interior of an East Vancouver house in February 2021.
He is also accused of three counts of mischief related to damage to a 2011 Titan Nissan, a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2011 Kia Soul.
Both the residence and the vehicles belonged to the same person.
It was also alleged Gadd threatened to cause death or bodily harm to two people in Delta in January 2024.
The court heard he had grabbed a woman’s hair and forced her out of her residence. He then followed her and assaulted her again, Rideout was told.
And, on Feb. 22, 2024, Delta police responded to a report that an unwanted former employee had returned to a business.
Rideout heard Gadd had threatened an officer with a pipe wrench and made another threat.
He was Tasered and taken into custody.
In addition to the conditional sentence order, Gadd was ordered to pay a $900 restitution to the car owner.
Defence lawyer Matthew Cumblidge told Rideout Gadd was under pressure at the time which exacerbated some mental health concerns.
“All of these incidents are extremely out of character for Mr. Gadd,” Cumblidge said.
