Firefighters are responding to a wildfire on Monday afternoon near a remote B.C. First Nation community.

BC Wildfire Service was notified of the fire at 12:30 p.m. on July 8 and has crews heading to the Pemberton Valley.

Skatin Nations band manager Geneva Quipp tells Glacier Media the fire is "contained" and burning across Lillooet River.

The fire is estimated to be under one hectare as of 1 p.m. on Monday.

Skatin Nations, also referred to as Skookumchuck, is on the east side of Lillooet River and has a population of 421 people.
