Sgt. Freda Fong is the new spokesperson for the province's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

A former Burnaby Mountie is the new face of B.C.'s homicide team.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced this week that Sgt. Freda Fong is its new spokesperson.

Fong began her RCMP career in Burnaby as a general duty member in 2010 before moving on to the detachment's serious persons crimes between 2013 and 2017.

She first joined IHIT as a homicide investigator in 2017.

In 2019, she was back in Burnaby as part of the detachment's investigative support team, eventually being promoted to sergeant in 2024.

She returned to IHIT this year to take on the role of spokesperson.

"I have seen the lasting trauma and suffering these cases can have on families and loved ones of victims, and the impact they can have on communities," Fong said in an IHIT news release Wednesday. "While balancing privacy rights and the integrity of ongoing investigations, my goal is to provide meaningful updates to the public and to be a voice for victims in the pursuit of justice."
