Grouse Mountain opens new Short Cut tow rope

The handle tow is designed to move up to 600 Side Cut Park users per hour

Park riders and skiers on Grouse Mountain will be able to get more runs in this season.

This week, the hill opened its Short Cut tow rope, which will take terrain park users back to the top of Side Cut Park.

Grouse said the new handle tow offers access to up to 20 features, eliminating the need for skiers and riders to use the Screaming Eagle Chair.

The Short Cut lift can move up to 600 people per hour, according to a statement, with a total rope length of 250 metres travelling at a maximum speed of two metres per second.

It’s the first of its kind on the North Shore mountains. And Grouse said it’s the first in an ongoing series of upgrades ahead of its 100th anniversary in 2026.

The idea for the new lift came from park users, said Michael Cameron, president of Grouse Mountain Resort.

“They asked, we listened, and as the name suggests, the Short Cut will improve efficiency getting up the mid-section of Side Cut allowing skiers and riders to get in even more laps,” he said.

“We’ve always tried to be at the forefront with our facilities and support the progression of the skiers and riders who come to Grouse Mountain,” he continued. “Now as the first resort on the North Shore to have a handle tow specifically for park users, we look forward to supporting that progression for many more years to come.”
