Obituary: George Broeckling

'George was a private man —  quiet but kind and gentle.'

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, George Broeckling passed away at home on March 30, 2023, at the age of 94 years.

The youngest of seven, George was born and raised in Paderborn, Germany. At the age of 27, he embraced adventure and moved to Canada, settling in Alberta.

There, George met the love of his life, Hilda, and they relocated to British Columbia and remained happily married for 58 years.

George was a masterful carpenter and cabinetmaker who finished the interiors of many high-end Vancouver high-rises, and he also built several homes for his family.

After retirement, he and Hilda built two more houses, relocated to Nanaimo, and enjoyed travelling North America by motorhome.

After Hilda passed away, he moved to Squamish to be closer to his son Garry.

George was a private man —  quiet but kind and gentle.

He loved hockey, had a dry sense of humour, and appreciated good food and a nightly glass of wine.

George is predeceased by his wife Hilda and will be lovingly remembered by his son Garry and his wife Nicole, nephew David (Karen, Kiri), a large extended family, and several family members remaining in Germany.
