RCMP release photos related to Sechelt stabbing

Sunshine Coast RCMP is releasing photos of a man who "may have been involved or potentially a witness" in a stabbing in Sechelt in the early hours of July 7.

Sunshine Coast RCMP is releasing photos of a man who "may have been involved or potentially a witness" in a stabbing in Sechelt in the early hours of July 7.

The man in the photo has been using the name Taylor or Tyler Johansen, said the release, and is believed to be new to the area.

According to police, a 40-year-old woman was stabbed once in the back outside of the Hightide Supportive Housing (5656 Hightide Avenue) Friday morning. The victim was treated at hospital and discharged the next day, Const. Karen Whitby told Coast Reporter by email. She said the assailant was unknown to the victim, but as the stabbing was the result of an altercation between the man and several other people that escalated, she doesn't believe there is a danger to the general public.

The RCMP is looking for anyone with cameras that may have caught people walking in the vicinity of Lamprey Lane, Wharf Avenue or Ebbtide Street at around 1:30 a.m. July 7 to contact their non-emergency phone number at 604-885-2266 regarding file 2023-4645.
