Three-year-old child dead after being struck by driver in Chilliwack

Police say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

A three-year-old child has died after a driver struck them with their vehicle in Chilliwack on Wednesday morning. 

Chilliwack RCMP Insp. Harinder Kheleh called the incident heartbreaking.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time,” said Kheleh. “This is a heartbreaking incident that affects the entire community.”

Police officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian at 10 a.m. on March 5 near Vedder Road and Petawawa Road.

When first responders arrived on the scene they immediately treated the child but they succumbed to their injuries. 

The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police closed off the intersection in all directions.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) has been called to investigate. ICARS is responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death between Pemberton and Boston Bar.

No details about the deceased are being released out of respect for the family.
