Hot deal alert: You can fly round-trip, direct from Vancouver to Japan for $680

Zipair offers the popular Vancouver-to-Tokyo, Japan route for hundreds of dollars less than the typically lowest-cost tickets, according to Google Flights.

Zipair is selling flights from Vancouver to Tokyo, Japan at a steal as part of its launch on the new direct route. 

Flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) will commence in March 2024 with a thrice-weekly service to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT), offering another nonstop option on the popular route. 

Describing itself as "basic" (neither low-cost nor full-service), the airline is owned by Japan's flagship carrier, Japan Airlines (JAL), and provides service from the Japanese capital to cities around the world.

Introductory prices on the route start at about half the cost of the lowest-priced tickets on direct flights between the two airports offered by JAL, All Nippon Airlines, and Air Canada.

Zipair currently flies from Tokyo to several cities in the United States, including Honolulu, San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles. It also flies to major destinations across Asia including South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.  

Introductory prices start at around US$237.99 for flights from YVR to NRT and just over US$200 for the return trip home.

The total price for a flight that departs YVR on April 24, 2024, and returns from NRT on May 6, 2024, is $515.68, which works out to roughly $681.30 based on the current exchange rate.

Typical prices on the Vancouver-to-Tokyo route

Travellers looking to score a discount on flights from YVR to NRT won't have much luck. 

Similar flights, such as Air Canada's direct flight option that connects the two cities, cost about double the price — and that's when they hit their lowest cost.

Return, direct flights from Vancouver to Tokyo typically cost between C$1,300 and $2,200. This means a $1,200 ticket is about $299 cheaper than usual, according to Google.
