Employees at Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel went on strike exactly one year ago.

It's been one year since employees at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond city centre walked off the job to demand fair wages.

Unite Here Local 40, the union representing striking workers, announced a rally outside the Sheraton at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 14 to mark the anniversary.

"One day longer, one day stronger!" reads the union's post on social media platform X.

Workers at the hotel on Westminster Highway and Minoru Boulevard went on strike on June 14, 2023 to demand better pay and working conditions.

The Sheraton has been slapped with multiple cease and desist orders over the past year for using scabs. In January, Richmond's city council voted to boycott the Sheraton along with adjoining hotels the Marriott and the Hilton. Larco Hospitality operates all three hotels.

The Richmond News last reported in April that a new union was created by employees discontent with Unite Here Local 40
