Close to $16,000 will be given to the Cheakamus Foundation for Environmental Learning.

It’s announcement that arrives after the Cheakamus Centre said it was looking for about half a million dollars to fund upgrades for cabins that have been in use for more than 50 years.

The money comes from the Government of Canada and will go towards upgrading two cabins that need work at the centre.

“Cheakamus Centre has a long standing history of providing outstanding environmental education experiences,” said MP Pamela Goldsmith-Jones in a news release. “As part of Canada’s commitment to youth and the environment, we are happy to support improved accessibility for all guests.”

Cheakamus Centre calls itself an environmental and indigenous cultural education institution located on the traditional territories of the Ch'iyáḵmesh people.

Located in Paradise Valley near Squamish, the centre provides nature-based learning experiences for thousands of students and adults each year.
