Galileo Coffee Company may move to Squamish

Cafe has been a landmark at Britannia Beach area

A co-owner of a popular Britannia Beach cafe says they’re looking to move their storefront to Squamish.

The development arrives months after Galileo Coffee Company had to shut down due to a septic failure. The company has since been selling its product through other retailers.

“We’ve decided to pivot and invest in a Squamish location and keep the Britannia location as our roastery headquarters,” wrote Cara Barth, in a message to The Chief.

“The bureaucracy and cost of a utility on a building/land we don’t own didn’t seem like good business sense. We reworked and re-permitted the septic to fit our roastery needs but a complete system replacement is necessary to reopen and meet the needs of the cafe.”

Barth says they hope to open up the Squamish location either in the fall or winter, but no date has been set in stone.
