Bill (Willy) Rempel closed his eyes for the last time on Sept. 30, 2022, at Sea to Sky Hospice at the age of 86, after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Louella; children Melanie (Kevin) Stroh, Alan (Andie) Rempel, and Shaun (Nicole) Rempel, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Bill was born in Foxwarren Manitoba, moving to a farm in the Fraser Valley as a young child. He graduated from UBC with a degree in chemical engineering, and then moved to Squamish where he began working at the pulp mill in Woodfibre, ending his career 34 years later as Technical and Environmental Manager.
Besides being close to work, Bill loved living here for the natural beauty — he enjoyed hiking the local mountains, including a final trip up to Garibaldi Lake and Black Tusk Meadows for his 80th birthday.
Bill volunteered in the community in many ways over the years, including coaching youth soccer, leading Boy Scouts, participating on church finance and maintenance committees, and chairing the Squamish Senior Living Society.
He invested many retirement hours at the golf course, curling club, and ski hill, and in caring for his grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life at the Squamish Golf Club on Saturday, Oct. 15th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Sea to Sky Hospice Society.
