This news may come as a relief for Squamish caregivers of individuals with disabilities.
The Sea to Sky Community Services Society Respite Program has just received a $23,000 grant from the John Gordon Autism Foundation.
The John Gordon Autism Foundation Respite Care grant provides funds to families or individuals who are responsible for the care of children or individuals with special needs or disabilities to allow them respite care services, according to a press release from Sea to Sky Community Services.
The purpose of respite care is to give a break to the primary unpaid caregiver.
"Respite care may be used in a variety of ways to allow families a much-needed break from their caregiving responsibilities. Families nominated to receive part of the grant can use the funds for childcare/ babysitter, activities for children; travel expenses, hotel, dinner out, workshops and self-care for parents — massage, spa, yoga," the release states.
