See: Sea to Sky meets Montreal—The cultural exchange experience at L'école Les Aiglons

A week of discovery for students in town from Montreal on a cultural exchange.

Squamish’s L'école Les Aiglons has been participating in a reciprocal exchange with a class from Montreal.

According to Lucie Lhotak, a Grade 9 teacher at the local francophone school, close to 30 students arrived last Tuesday.

"We've been having a wonderful week with our exchange students from Montreal, exploring the Sea to Sky region and learning about its culture, history and geography," Lhotak said in an email to The Squamish Chief on Sunday.

Lhotak said the activities so far have included a hike in Murrin Provincial Park, visiting Stanley Park, English Bay and Granville Island, a guided tour of the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, a snowball fight at the top of Whistler, and many other activities with host families.

Today, (April 15), the students are exploring the Britannia Mine Museum, followed by a sendoff barbecue at Porteau Cove Provincial Park.

In May, the middle school students from L'école Les Aiglons will travel to Montreal to learn about its cultural heritage.

The exchanges are made possible through a grant from Experiences Canada in partnership with the Ministry of Canadian Heritage.
