Squamish birder Chris Dale recently captured the sights and sounds of these red-throated loons on Alice Lake.
Dale said the red-throated loons at the lake have been on the B.C. Rare Bird Alert for a couple of weeks.
"Not because they are a rare species for this area but because they are rare for this area at this time of the year," Dale said in an email to The Squamish Chief. "We see them in the Squamish area during the winter months, but normally at this time of the year, they should be on their breeding grounds further up the coast and into the high Arctic regions of Canada," he continued, adding that a few years ago there was one such bird that spent a few summers at the lakes at Black Tusk Village.
