Squamish is likely best known for its mountain bikers, Olympians, climbers, kite surfers and good beer, but we aren't all about the brawn and cheer; plenty of pensive and talented authors call the Sea to Sky Corridor home.
A new event hopes to showcase several of them at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Wednesday, April 17.
Stacked: A Spring Anthology, organized by local author Lisa Duncan, promises to be an evening of storytelling and poetry.
The authors involved include Duncan, a local educator and writer; Britannia Beach romance novelist Danika Bloom; Squamish novelist Amber Cowie; downtown Squamish author, playwright, and musician Katherine Fawcett; local prose and poetry writer Yin Xzi Ho; ethnobotanist, researcher, entrepreneur, and recent author Leigh Joseph; poet and fiction writer TS Lee; memoir writer Jan Redford; and mountaineer, entrepreneur, and author Michael Schauch.
There will be a question and answer session with authors after the readings. Signed copies of books will be available for purchase via cash or e-transfer.
"My motivation in organizing the event was to showcase some of the literary talent we have right here in Squamish, to celebrate the reopening of the BAG, and to raise some money to support local charity organizations that help our community," said Duncan in an email to The Squamish Chief.
Ticket proceeds will be going to PearlSpace and the Squamish Welcome Centre.
