Hundreds gathered downtown Thursday (Nov. 11) for a pared-down but no less powerful Remembrance Day Ceremony.
Squamish's Russell Robertson, a retired warrant officer with the Canadian Forces, who served for 29 years, said while some communities have forgone in-person ceremonies due to COVID-19 this year, he thinks it is "extremely important" the day is honoured as best folks can.
Robertson is also Squamish Legion's veterans' service liaison.
"To me, it is a day where we can all be thankful for everything we have," he said. "I think people say it, but if you travel to Afghanistan, or places that are in civil war, or other countries in the world, it really makes you appreciate it — how good we have it. We can walk around safely."
