There's no need to go out of town to shop during this busy season as there is much to be offered right in our own community starting with St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2449 The Boulevard, which is holding its annual Christmas Bazaar and luncheon tomorrow (Nov. 28) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participate in the silent auction and raffles, check the tables filled with handmade items including knitted goods, look over the crafts and be sure to pick out a treat or two at the bake tables.

The Squamish Manor on Third Avenue and Pemberton is holding a Seniors Christmas Bazaar tomorrow (Nov. 28) from 1 to 3 p.m. when a variety of crafts, knitted socks, slippers and more will be on display. A bake table is also planned and coffee, tea and refreshments will be available.

École Mamquam Elementary School invites all to their Christmas Craft Fair on Friday, Dec. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This family fun night includes crafts, bake sale, bingo, photos with Santa and a concession stand. For table rentals, call 604-898-3601.

On Thursday (Dec. 3) from 6:30 to 9 a.m., Mountain FM will be at McDonalds collecting new toys, non-perishable food items, and cash donations for Community Christmas Care and local food banks in our Sea to Sky Corridor.

The Cedar Valley Waldorf School has its Gala Live Auction tomorrow (Nov. 28) at 7 p.m. in the Brackendale Art Gallery. Entertainment includes The Paperboys, Cam Salay, Shannon Saunders and friends. Members of the Over the Hill Hikers are reminded to meet one hour earlier, at 9 a.m. at the Adventure Centre on Tuesday (Dec. 1) for carpooling to the Cleveland Dam to ark Royal. Please call Heather at 604-892-9003 if you wish more information.

The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors at the Alano Club on Third Avenue on Wednesday (Dec. 2) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grocery distribution.

The local Shaker Church in the Stawamus Reserve is holding its second annual Christmas dinner for the needy on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Totem Hall. If you would like to support or volunteer to help out, please call Alice Gus at 604-892-5195.

On Wednesday (Dec. 2) at 6:45 p.m., the Squamish Valley Quilters Guild will gather in the meeting room at the Squamish Public Library. New and past members are welcome to attend.

The Squamish Needy Animal Foundation (SNAF) is holding a paper crafting for pets (scrap booking) day on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company. The fundraiser crop and Christmas card class runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The full day is $50 and half day, $30. For just the Christmas card class from 3 to 4:30 p.m. the price is $20. SNAF will also be taking pet photos at the Village Green Garden Centre on Mamquam Road on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the organization is looking for a anta suit. If you have one to loan or donate, please call Felicity at 604-815-8020.

Registration for the winter sessions of Keep Well Seniors Exercise classes begins on Tuesday (Dec. 1) at either the Squamish Seniors Centre or the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. Level I classes will run each Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon, Level II each Monday and Wednesday for either the 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. time or the 11 a.m. to noon classes. For those seniors wishing more challenging exercises (without the chairs) the days are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. All classes will be held in the Squamish Seniors Centre.

The Keep Well exercise programs are so well attended and much of that credit goes to our super leader Sacha Molby and to her able assistants Margaret Taylor and Mary June Wyndham. When Mary June was unable to attend, Bev Richards helped out.

The ever-popular Carol's Carols will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Squamish United Church at Fourth and Victoria. Participants to date include the church choir, the Thompson family, Rita Kyle, Carolyn Grass, Louise Martin and of course Carol Grolman. Admission is a cash donation or non-perishable food items for Community Christmas Care.

The Rotary 200 Club winners for Oct. were: Lila Gaudry-Gardner ($100), Dave Hinds ($120), Vie and Myrt Hurford ($130) and Jim Mekolash ($150).

Take in Between Shifts Theatre's presentation of the musical pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Plan on attending tonight (Nov. 28) or tomorrow (Dec. 29) at 7:30 p.m. or take in the matinee tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Phone your friends and head to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 for an evening of socializing and playing bingo on Monday (Nov. 30) with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

The Howe Sound Women's Centre has produced its first annual draw calendar. The calendars are $25 each but there are 24 draws throughout 2010 and you may have a chance to win up to $1000. The calendars are available at Billie's Bouquet, The Bookshelf, The Hive, Pearl's 2nds and at the Women's Centre.

The annual Handcrafted Christmas Fair featuring our local professional artisans will be held at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company on Sunday (Nov. 29) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations of non-perishable food items for the Squamish Food Bank would be appreciated.

The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at Shoppers Drug Mart on Friday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. for an estuary walk. Following the walk we will have our annual Christmas potluck luncheon. For more information, call Darleen at 604-892-2092 or myself at 604-815-0152.

Hey teens! The Squamish Public Library is looking for enthusiastic teens that are interested in joining our new Teen Advisory Committee. Help with the teen book club, advise on new teen titles/CD's/DVD's or plan a fun teen event at the library. All members will be eligible to gain volunteer hours.
