If you're starting to feel those February blahs, mark Saturday (Feb. 21) on your calendar and celebrate the second annual Sea to Sky Wine Festival Benefit.
Taking place at the Sea to Sky Hotel from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the festival features the fine home grown offerings of the best wine in British Columbia and beyond. You can sample over 100 different domestic and international wines, micro-brewed beers and premium spirits.
"I am a wine lover myself and have attended quite a few wine festivals in the past," said Mohsen Mohajer, Sea to Sky Hotel general manager and festival organizer. "I thought, we have a beautiful place in Squamish, and it would be a perfect venue for a wine festival."
Mohajer said tourists tend to drive through Squamish on their way to Whistler or Vancouver, but the wine festival serves as a reason to stop. Over 20 different vendors jumped on the idea and wine festival became a reality.
"The whole idea is to have a wonderful evening and learn about wine. It's an opportunity to know what is in wine and how they get their flavour," Mohajer said.
Along with the wine, a few different breweries will also be on hand for beer tasting. Delectable treats such as cheese and bread will be served with the helps of Save On Foods.
Mohajer said you don't need to be a wine expert and the event is for a good cause. All proceeds from the wine festival are going to the Squamish Food Bank.
"At the end of the day, we raise a few dollars for the food bank, which helps members of the community that are less fortunate," Mohajer said.
Last year, over 70 people showed up for the first-ever wine festival, and Mohajer is hoping to break 100 for the second event. He said it's a great opportunity to learn more about the wine we drink.
"This is the right way to kick off your weekend, treat yourself and bring your friends to a night that happens only once a year."
Tickets are $20 and $25 at the door. Tickets can be found at Gelato Carina, The Adventure Centre, Sea to Sky Hotel and the Sea to Sky Beer and Wine store.
