Yellow brick road trip planned for spring

Squamish is going to be swept off to the Land of Oz in the spring.

Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the Oz cast will take to the stage at Eagle Eye Theatre between June 16 and 24 as the Howe Sound Dance Academy (HSDA) presents the Wizard of Oz.

Six performances of the dance show are planned. Two separate casts will be created and each cast will perform three times.

According to Shalimar Blanchard of the HSDA, studio rehearsals for the year-end show will begin May 12.

The show will include students who are taking classes in ballet, jazz dance and hip hop.

The HSDA presented the school's interpretation of Snow White this past spring at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Tickets sold well and the show was well received.

Blanchard announced the addition of a new teacher last month. Amanda Thiele is going to teach classes at the downtown HSDA studios on Fridays.

A number of students at the academy are preparing for the Triple Threat Dance Convention Nov. 19 and 20 in Vancouver. The convention offers participants a number of things, such as specialized instruction in various dance forms along with a faculty chat session, an audition class and a parent's [email protected]
