There are lots of activities going on at the Communities That Care Community Celebration at Brennan Park Recreation Centre tonight (March 11) from 7 to 9 p.m. for children, youth and families, including a free public swim from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a free family skate from 7:25 to 8:25 p.m. Entertainment includes Still Dancing, the Squamish Nation Dancers, Tae Kwon Do, Squamish Youth Theatre and hip-hop dancing. Health and fitness stations will also be set up and will include nutrition display, fitness testing, blood sugar testing and blood pressure testing. The motto is that "Healthier Communities lead to healthier families!"

Master impressionist and "super dork" Charles Ross is here to entertain audiences this weekend with his One Man Lord of the Rings. The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association is pleased to have Ross perform in two concerts this weekend at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre. The first performance is tonight (March 11) at 8 p.m. and the second Saturday (March 12) at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Mostly Books, Billie's Bouquet and Highland Video at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.

A garage sale to raise money for the U15 boys soccer team to travel to England in April at St. John's Anglican Church Saturday (March 12) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Your patronage would be greatly appreciated.

The annual bowling fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Squamish begins this weekend at Garibaldi Lanes. Teams begin bowling tonight (March 11) from 7 to 11 p.m. and Saturday (March 12) from 3 to 11 p.m. If this weekend isn't suitable, the fundraiser will continue next Friday (March 18) with bowling slots from 7 to 9 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. For more information or to get your team signed up, please call Wendy Brown at 604-815-3298.

Sunday (March 13) the Squamish Environmental Conservation Society will hold its monthly bird count. Participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the Howe Sound Inn. All levels of birders are invited to attend this fun and educational event. For more information please call Judith at 604-892-3340.

Hilltop House will honour five residents at its monthly birthday party on Wednesday (March 16) at 2 p.m. The honourees are Henry Dan, Jeanne Watson, Nina Smith, Bob Robson and Judy Olsen.

The Squamish Firefighters' Association is holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Brennan Park on Sunday, March 27 at 12 noon. Also that day, the West Coast Railway Heritage Park will hold its annual Easter Scavenger Hunt from 12 to 3 p.m.Many youngsters and adults are involved in the Squamish Youth Theatre's annual Youthfest next week. The six very family-oriented plays will be performed at the Eagle Eye Theatre on Thursday (March 17) and Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m. each night. Adriane Polo is the chief organizer and she along with Dan Jarvis, Michelle Heighes, Kelly Ann Smee and Amanda Anderson are directing the plays. You can pick up tickets at Highland Video and Mostly Books for $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students.

Spring Break begins next weekend and the B.C. Museum of Mining in Britannia Beach is opening its doors for public tours of the mine from March 19 to April 1. The tours will run each day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. excluding Good Friday (March 25) and Easter Sunday (March 27). Take the family along and enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. There is also a contest for six- to 12-year-old based on the tour. Four prizes will be awarded.

The Teen Book Club will meet at the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (March 15) from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. to discuss The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. If you plan to attend, please call Alison at 604-892-3110 or email [email protected] as pizzas need to be ordered.

Fundraising for the Howe Sound Secondary School Dry Grad 2005 is ongoing. This year, instead of the traditional manure sales, the grads will be selling Carney's Compost. There are three varieties: soil amendment (100 per cent pure for pre-existing garden beds), garden blend for new gardens and top dressing for lawn and turf care. The prices are one bag for $5, five bags for $20 or a pick-up load for $75. To place your order for delivery on April 9 please call 604-815-4020.

The Rotary Club 200 lottery final draw winners for 2004-2005 were held on March 3 at the Sea to Sky Hotel at Rotary's regular luncheon. The grand prize winners were Jameer Kajant ($2,000), Peter Auld and Bill Manson ($1,000 each) and Joan Gravkin ($200). The next series of tickets are now on sale from any Rotary member.

A slide show and talk by Christina Nick at the Brackendale Art Gallery Saturday (March 12) at 8 p.m. is entitled Out of Africa: New Work from Travels in Namibia. Admission is by donation. On Sunday (March 13) harpist Lori Pappajohn will be in concert with Joaquin Ayala. Tickets at $15 each are available at the BAG and Mostly Books.

The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for dynamic people to support its fundraising events in schools for the Cops for Cancer Tour for a Friend cycling tour.
