How many years has it been since you saw the movie The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews? Bring those memories with you when you see Squamish's own rendition of this most loved musical. It was opening night for the 28-member cast last night (Nov. 25) at the Eagle Eye Theatre and it continues tonight (Nov. 26) at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow (Nov. 27) with a matinee at 2 p.m. and in the evening at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Presentations are also planned for Dec. 2-4 at the same time as this weekend. There could be a sell-out for this musical and if you are planning to attend, purchase tickets at Billie's Bouquet and both Squamish Credit Union locations at $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 years and under.

For the performances this weekend, Jens Ourum is taking the role of Rolf and the next weekend the role will be taken by Mike Ciccione.



Last year, the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital contributed no less than 8,230 volunteer hours in raising funds for equipment for the hospital. One of the WA's main fundraising events is the annual Christmas Bazaar and raffle which will be held tomorrow (Nov. 27) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel). It will feature home baking, sewing, knitted items, baby quilts and Christmas crafts. Raffle tickets and coffee and goodies will be available. The raffle winners will be announced at 1 p.m.



All those interested in participating in the Eagle Watch program are reminded the training session for new volunteers is tomorrow (Nov. 27) from 8:45 a.m. to 12 noon. As the group will move outdoors to the eagle viewing shelter on the dyke on Government Road across from the Easter Seal Camp at 1 p.m. it is suggested you wear warm clothing and take a lunch with you. Another bazaar that is fun to attend is the annual Christmas Bazaar and luncheon sponsored by the Catholic Women's League of St. Joseph's Church at 2449 The Boulevard in Garibaldi Highlands. It will be held tomorrow (Nov. 27) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will be an assortment of home baking, Christmas crafts, sewing, raffles and other attractions.



Howe Sound Women's Centre and Pearl's 2nds is hosting a Christmas Bazaar tomorrow (Nov. 27) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HSWC at 38116 Loggers Lane. There will be a variety of Christmas decorations and other crafts for sale, and a bake sale and hot dogs will be available. Santa has promised to make a special visit too! All proceeds of the sale will go to the Pearl's Place Transition House and the Howe Sound Women's Centre.



The Howe Sound Dry Grad 2005 Committee is sponsoring a bottle drive and food bank drive tomorrow (Nov. 27) when grads will be in your neighbourhood collecting bottles and non-perishable food items. If you are not going to be at home, please leave items by your front door marked for Dry Grad.



When the Totem Preschool holds its Christmas Craft Fair at Totem Hall tomorrow (Nov. 27) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be many items hand made by the Elders as well as Christmas crafts and more.



The director of the Sea to Sky Singers, Veronica McPhee, is a busy lady as she also has the leading role in the musical The Sound of Music. Veronica will direct the Sea to Sky Singers and three guest soloists in Antonia Vivaldi's Gloria in concert at the Squamish Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet, Highland Video, mostly Books and at the door at $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.



Knack to Knit is back at the Squamish Public Library on Sunday (Nov. 28) from 1 to 4 p.m. Please pre-register if you need supplies. A workshop full of ideas for inexpensive, but impressive Christmas décor is planned and will be led by Marcie Gaukrodger Tuesday (Nov. 30) from 7 to 8 p.m.



Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School is holding a Christmas Craft Fair on Thursday (Dec. 2) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.



When attending the handcrafted Christmas Fair at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company on Sunday (Nov. 28) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. please take along a non-perishable food item for Community Christmas Care.



The 40th anniversary of our incorporation as a district municipality takes place with an evening of celebration at the Sea to Sky Hotel on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. Tickets for this evening are on sale at the Municipal office at a cost of $20 each.



Hats off to the over 100 participants who participated in the 28th annual Squamish Fall Classic as a fundraiser towards the Angela James Memorial Scholarship. Congrats to Howe Sound Secondary School who won the school challenge award. Contributions can still be sent to the Squamish Titans, c/o Helle Wilburn, #28-2401 Mamquam Rd., Squamish, B.C. V0N 3G0.
