RCMP responded to a fight involving several individuals at the Spectacle apartment complex on Tantalus Road Sunday (Jan. 7).

The altercation began at approximately 10:30 p.m. when three men allegedly attempted to force their way into an apartment on the second floor only to be overwhelmed by the apartment's residents.

The men fled but minutes later returned with knives.

The second attempted entry was heard throughout the building causing numerous residents to dial 911 for help.

RCMP arrived on the scene shortly before 11 p.m. to discover a "large disturbance," according to a RCMP report.

RCMP quickly apprehended Squamish resident Jack Shillito, who allegedly initially resisted arrest.

Once subdued, police discovered that the suspect was carrying two knives.

The other two men involved in the Spectacle altercation fled on foot and were apprehended a short distance away.

Twenty-one-year-old Shillito had already been taken into custody twice the previous week for breaching conditions of his release on previous charges, but Crown prosecutors declined to charge him.

Shillito appeared in court Wednesday (Jan. 17) facing charges of break and entry, weapons possession, uttering threats and obstruction of a peace officer.

A second suspect, 21-year-old Bradley McHaffie, is in custody and is charged with break and entry, assault with a weapon and possession with a weapon. McHaffie faces a court appearance on Jan. 16.

The third suspect is in custody and will appear in court later this month, but has not yet been formally charged.
