Body discovered; police believe killing 'targeted'

Man whose body was found by hikers was 'known to police'

Police have identified the victim of an apparent homicide, whose body was found Sunday (Oct. 2) along a forestry road near Valleycliffe, as a man from Surrey who was "known to police."

Authorities on Monday (Oct. 3) said they believe William Lim Woo, 55, was the victim of a targeted killing, according to a statement issued by RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

A group of hikers located an unresponsive male on Sunday just after 2 p.m., just off the Mamquam Forest Service Road, near where the pavement ends. Squamish RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service personnel attended and assessed the man, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

IHIT was deployed and the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy was planned and the road was closed until after IHIT investigators had finished combing the area for possible clues. IHIT officials urged anyone with information to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or, to remain anonymous, CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
