Squamish locals know the arrival of eagles to town and the annual Brackendale Winter Eagle Festival are pretty cool.
Most of us head out to snap some picstures of our bald, fine-feathered visitors, and some of us volunteer to help with the count on the first Sunday in January each year.
And now residents of sunny Los Angeles know about our eagles and eagle-events too.
The L.A. Times featured the arrival of eagles to town, the Brackendale Winter Eagle Festival and the Brackendale Art Gallery in a travel story on Dec. 28.
According to the paper, it has a combined print and online local weekly audience of 4.6 million. It claims to be the largest metropolitan daily newspaper in the U.S.
The story, "Bald eagle count and festival in Squamish, Canada, celebrates America’s symbol," notes that with the end of an eagle count in the San Bernardino National Forest, Squamish may be a bald eagle-watching alternative.
The article mentions "colourful" Brackendale Art Gallery owner Thor Froslev (linking to his personal Facebook page) and notes the District of Squamish as "a rapidly growing resort town between Vancouver and the more-crowded Whistler."
