Municipal nominations close with 18 council candidatesSylvie [email protected] nominations closing at 4 p.m. Friday (Oct. 10), the official list of candidates running for municipal council during the Nov. 15 election includes Greg Gardner and long time council watchdogs Terrill Patterson and John Erickson facing off for the mayor's chair, while 18 others will compete for the six council seats.The candidates running for council are: Deb McBrideJorli RickerLarry McLennanAlan ForsytheRon BahmPatricia HeintzmanJeff McKenzieMike JensonCorinne LonsdaleDonna Billy David ClarksonCatherine JacksonRob KirkhamPaul LalliJohn McIllwraithKen PerryDoug RaceBryan RaiserRunning for School trustee are:Andrea BeaubienRick PriceTerrill PattersonIn what has become a Squamish tradition, council watchdog Patterson said he intended to submit his papers for mayor when it appeared as though Gardner, who was elected to council in a 2006 byelection, would run unopposed. But in a surprise last minute move, Erickson chose to run for mayor as well. Patterson decided file his papers nonetheless.Bahm, who stated his intention to run for mayor last spring, is now running for council instead. Incumbents Lonsdale, Heintzman and Jenson had declared their intentions earlier while incumbent McKenzie hadn't returned numerous calls from The Chief asking about his intentions.The surprise candidates filing their papers on the last day were Ricker, McBride and Forsythe.
