With a tendering process complete, council supported a staff recommendation to award Coast Valley Contracting Ltd. with the $1.8 million job of installing water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer services in the Squamish Business Park.
Piping will be laid along Discovery Way from Mountain Building Supplies to the north end of Pioneer Way and along a new road from Queens Way to the highway. They will provide basic services for a new subdivision and for the upcoming Home Depot, Wal Mart and Parallax factory outlet developments.
As interested parties, the big box retailers are contributing $720,000 to the project.
Coun. Patricia Heintzman passed on requests from families who use the Discovery Trail that gravel trucks not drive on the trail, but remain on the roads intended for their use.
Chief Administrative Officer Kim Anema assured Heintzman that contractors would be notified. Council grants RCMP computer support funding
Council passed a motion to increase the municipality's RCMP payment share to cover the cost of a computer support position previously covered by provincially funded computer personnel.
"The need for computer/LAN support has increased on all fronts and far exceeds the capacity of our provincial computer support resources," stated RCMP financial manager and accounting operations regional director Max Xiao in a letter to council.
The cost - spread throughout the three municipalities of Squamish, Whistler and Sechelt according to its percentage of RCMP staff - will be $134,867 for the first year and $94,867 annually thereafter. Squamish's share is $34,384 for the first year and $24,074 for each subsequent year.
