A 38-year-old man is in serious condition following a stabbing in a room at the Chieftain Hotel Thursday, June 14, which led to a high-speed police chase.
Two suspects, a 22-year-old female and a 36-year-old male, are in Squamish RCMP custody. The pair was apprehended soon after the stabbing and remanded to North Vancouver Provincial Court.
"We got the 911 call ... one minute before midnight," said Cpl. Dave Ritchie. By the time officers arrived, two minutes later, the suspects had fled the scene."It was broadcast to other members immediately and the vehicle was seen northbound on Highway 99," said Ritchie. When police signaled the vehicle to stop, it sped through Brennan Park's parking lot, over cement curbs, and through fences.RCMP followed it to the end of a gravel pit on the south side of the Mamquam River, east of the Squamish Golf and Country Club. The suspects then exited their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, said Ritchie.
RCMP members followed the pair into the forest and were able to track them without the aid of the canine unit, which was unavailable at the time.
"We were then able to apprehend them."
The 38-year-old victim remains in the hospital.
"His injuries are serious, but not life threatening at this point, but we can't guarantee that won't change," said Ritchie.
