The Squamish Chief picked up a prestigious award Monday (March 12) when the Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) named the publication "best all-round community newspaper in Canada" in its circulation category.
It's the second time in three years the Chief has been honoured with the title - and the first top CCNA prize since moving into a higher circulation category.
"We are very pleased to be recognized by our peers at the national level once again," said publisher Tim Shoults. "The fact that this award is based on all aspects of the newspaper is a testament to the hard work of everyone at The Chief. The credit goes to all of our staff as well as to the community, whose support gives us the resources to make a quality community newspaper."
The Chief also earned gold for best editorial page and The Chief's sister paper, the Whistler Question, also received high praise from the CCNA. The Question won top prize for best front and best editorial page in its circulation category, and second prize for best overall newspaper.
The Canadian Community Newspapers Association encourages excellence by sponsoring an annual national competition to celebrate the achievements of its member newspapers. Newspapers compete against other newspapers of similar circulation for Special and Premier awards in such categories as editorial, photography, advertising and special promotion. In addition, newspapers compete in the General Excellence Competition, which recognizes newspapers for the best Editorial Page, Best Front Page and Best All-round Newspaper.
