Communities in Bloom judges to visit

Community

Squamish is shooting for five out of five blooms in the 2005 Communities in Bloom event.Residents are encouraged to touch up and make things look nice for the arrival of two judges, one from Alberta and one from Quebec, on Sunday (July 17).

The judges will be welcomed at a reception planned for the Squamish Adventure Centre. During the reception, the judges will learn about local initiatives aimed at beautifying the community, from the people behind various projects and initiatives.

Communities In Bloom is a beautification program that promotes civic pride and environmental responsibility through a national competition.

Trained volunteer judges travel across Canada during July and August to evaluate communities. The judges look for tidiness, urban forests, environmental awareness, landscaping, community involvement, floral displays, natural and architectural heritage preservation, and turf and groundcover areas.

Last year, judges awarded Squamish four out of a possible five blooms.
