There are now four people interested in being the mayor of Squamish.
Coun. Patricia Heintzman has announced she filed her nomination papers to run against incumbent Rob Kirkham, Ron Bahm and Auli Parviainen. This comes after she announced on Sept. 29 that she wouldn’t be seeking re-election.
“My papers have been submitted for mayor,” Heintzman wrote in an email message to The Squamish Chief at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.
Heintzman was first elected to council in 2005.
She is currently the chair of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD). For the past six years Heintzman has been a member of the SLRD board of directors. Heintzman first came to Squamish after she accepted a job with The Squamish Chief in the 1990s.
In the 2011 municipal election Heintzman generated the most votes, winning her seat with 2,292 checks on the ballots — nine more votes than Mayor Rob Kirkham received to take his place at the head of the table.
Coun. Ted Prior has also filed his nomination papers seeking re-election as councillor. Prior was first elected in 2011 so he is seeking a second term.
Nomination papers have also been filed by Karen Elliott and Debra McBride announced her intention to run for council by filling out The Squamish Chief's candidate profile questionaire. The other declared councillor candidates are Chris Pettingill, Jason Blackman-Wulff, Stephen Fryer, Rob Weys, Doug Race, Peter Kent, Bryan Raiser, Scott Wengi, Susan Chapelle, Eric Anderson and Phil Audet.
The deadline to submit election papers for the vote on Nov. 15 is Friday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
