Drunk man found passed out in school

Briefs from the Squamish RCMP

Halloween kept police busy with calls for disturbances, mischief and fireworks. There were large groups of young people encountered throughout the communities, and the local bars were busy, but for the most part people were enjoying the night and no major problems were encountered.

Early on in the evening an alarm was triggered at Valleycliffe Elementary School. A highly intoxicated 31-year-old male was located sleeping inside the school. The male was brought to a jail cell and detained until sober. He was issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in public.

At 9:50 p.m., a 32-year-old female was observed speeding, disobeying a stop sign and driving without lights between The Boulevard and Mamquam Road. The woman failed a roadside screening for alcohol and will appear in court on Dec. 16 to answer to a charge of impaired driving.

Gun-toting thief robs Chevron

At 3:15 a.m., an employee of the Chevron Service Station called to advise that he had just been robbed at gunpoint. An investigation revealed a male demanded money and cigarettes from the employee while brandishing a pistol.

The suspect was described as masked and wearing a dark ski jacket that had a white stripe that went over the chest and along both arms. An undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes were stolen, and the suspect was last seen on foot running towards Tantalus Road. The matter is still under investigation.
