You can count on many things when summer gives itself completely over to fall and one of those things is the return of the majestic bald eagle.
When the impressive birds start appearing in the stripped down leafless trees beside the Squamish, Mamquam and Cheakamus Rivers you can be sure a group of dedicated volunteers will be on hand to greet visitors and anyone else interested in learning more about the birds wintering in Squamish and feasting on salmon in the local rivers.
"Volunteers old and new are invited to an orientation and slideshow at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8:45 a.m. to noon," said Amy Hazeldine of the Eagle Watch Program. "At 1 p.m. the orientation will move outdoors to Eagle Run for some hands on scope training followed by a salmon walk at 2 p.m."
She said the volunteer program is perfect for people looking to learn more about the natural history of Squamish and she added it offers those involved a chance to meet people from near and far.
