Residents of three units in a Squamish apartment block were temporarily displaced early this morning due to a fire.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Aaron Foote, at about 1:40 a.m. Thursday morning (Aug 25), Squamish Fire Rescue arrived at Tantalus Manor, located at 1098 Wilson Crescent, to put out a fire in a bottom floor unit.
Approximately 30 firefighters worked to put out that fire, which was limited to contents within one apartment.
The building itself was not on fire, Foote said in an email to The Squamish Chief.
"Quick-acting neighbours were able to break a window and use a fire extinguisher to help until firefighters arrived," he said.
"When crews arrived on-scene, they attacked the fire with water from the exterior while another crew entered the unit."
Due to the smoke, the residents of two other apartments had to leave temporarily.
Squamish Emergency Social Services personnel helped those folks.
Foote said the fire is being further investigated this morning in conjunction with the RCMP, and more information will be released once available.
