It is no secret that understanding local government and how it works can be challenging.

As Squamish council returns to chambers after its August break, the District of Squamish has launched a new online portal that aims to make council information more palatable.

The website contains council meeting schedules, agendas, a live stream of meetings, as well as archived videos, agendas and minutes.

The District’s library of bylaws and policies is also within the Document Centre on the portal. The site also includes information on how to connect with council members.

“We are working to improve access to information to build a community in which residents of all ages can have easy access to council work, participate in local decision-making, and be informed and engaged in civic life,” said Mayor Armand Hurford in a news release. “We invite all Squamish residents to tour the user-friendly platform, tune in to a meeting or watch a previous recording, learn about some of our opportunities and challenges, and hear updates about projects.”

To access the new portal, head to https://squamish.civicweb.net.
