BC Emergency Health Services has confirmed that one person was airlifted to hospital as a result of last night's crash on Highway 99 just south of the Conroy Forest Service Road, a popular climbing area.
The organization said in a statement to The Squamish Chief that it received a call at 8:05 p.m. for a single-vehicle collision. Two paramedics crews and a helicopter rushed to the scene.
The incident shut down the highway in both directions on the evening of May 16 at around 9:15 p.m. It later reopened at 1:30 a.m. on May 17.
A reporter from The Squamish Chief happened to be driving by before the closure and saw a south-facing vehicle upside down on the side of the road.
Emergency crews had surrounded the area, and paramedics were readying a stretcher. Crews were setting up cones, and Miller Capilano vehicles were also arriving on scene.
