Hit and run suspect nabbed

On Oct. 2, RCMP received a report of an impaired driver northbound on Highway 99 near Lions Bay. The complainant reported that a black Chrysler 300, was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes and was weaving all over the road. A member located the vehicle and the driver who displayed signs of impairment was arrested. Through further investigation, it was later determined that the same vehicle and driver was involved in a hit and run in Vancouver the same evening. The 59-year-old Langley man was released on a promise to appear where he will face charges of impaired driving.

Tools stolen

On Sept. 1 a break and enter occurred at a house under construction in Valleycliffe overnight. A secluded detached shed was targeted and stolen was a compressor, toolbox, hand router, screw gun, sawhorses and an IPOD docking station. Investigators believe the suspect(s) knew of the property and that it was targeted and/or internal.

Wanted youth spotted

On Oct. 1 members observed a male at the Squamish skateboard park who had a warrant for his arrest for failing to comply with a probation order. Members apprehended the male without incident who appeared at the North Vancouver Provincial Court to face charges the following day.

Repeat offender stopped

On Oct. 1, a member observed a white Honda Civic on Government Road by Olsen Road with a male driver, known to police. Queries of the vehicles B.C. license plate showed the vehicle had no valid insurance. Further checks revealed the male driver did not hold a valid B.C. driver's license. The driver was issued violation tickets for no insurance and no driver's licence.

Fish harmed

On Oct. 1, conservation officers conducted patrols of the Mamquam River for anglers targeting species at risk. Several warnings were issued including one to a Squamish resident for failing to release fish in the least harmful manner.

Illegal dumping

On Oct. 1, conservation officers initiated and investigation into the illegal dumping of waste on Wedgemount, off of Highway 99 in Whistler. Charges under the Environmental Management Act are pending.

Butt thrower charged

On Oct. 3, a Maple Ridge man was charged for depositing litter on a highway under the Motor Vehicle Act after he was observed throwing a cigarette butt out of the vehicle window.

Wildlife moved illegally

On Oct. 3, a Port Alberni man was charged under the Wildlife Act for offences related to the transportation of wildlife contrary to regulation and the cancellation of species license.
