Hwy. 99 update

Briefs

The schedule of construction-related closures on Highway 99 between Whistler and Squamish will remain the same for the next 10 days as it has been for the past two weeks. The lone exception is next Friday (Nov. 11), when no closures or delays are planned on Remembrance Day.

Motorists should expect the highway to be closed tonight (Nov. 4) from 3 to 5 a.m.

Full closures 15 kilometres south of Whistler, near Pinecrest Estates, are expected to resume Monday at 12:01 a.m. Full closures are also expected Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. and 3 to 5 a.m., ending Friday at 5 a.m.

On weekdays, motorists traveling south of Whistler should expect delays of up to 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and up to 15 minutes during non-closure periods from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Also, those traveling south of Squamish should expect delays of up to 15 minutes between Lions Bay and Squamish weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ending tomorrow at noon. Also, expect delays of up to 30 minutes between Horseshoe Bay and Lions bay from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, and up to 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ending next Thursday at noon.

Quiet Halloween for emergency services

The rain that fell Halloween night was credited with keeping the number of rowdy incidents to a minimum. Cpl. Dave Ritchie said the RCMP made only three or four fireworks seizures on Monday (Oct. 31).

Squamish Fire Rescue was called to a dumpster fire behind the Chieftain Centre mall at 3:30 p.m. on Monday in the lone Halloween highlight for firefighters.
